Luc Besson: “I believe that Uzbek films are worthy of the Cannes Film Festival awards”
12:17 / 2021-10-03

A meeting with the famous French film director Luc Besson took place within the framework of the Pearl of the Silk Road International Film Festival.

He shared his memories of how he created his films, advised young filmmakers.

“I am very glad to attend the Tashkent International Film Festival and I would like to say that it is, first of all, for young people. We must empower young filmmakers to take the initiative in filmmaking into their own hands. I remember when I was just starting to shoot my films, I could only show the final result to my parents, because there was no opportunity to show them to famous filmmakers for evaluation.

Now anyone can make a short film, edit it and upload it to the Internet, thereby broadcasting it to the world. I think that young people are very lucky, because now any opportunities are open for them”, Luc Besson said.

“The best advice I can give is, to be honest with yourself. Do what comes from the heart, from the soul. That’s when people will like your work. If you know your story is good enough, don’t give up. You have no idea how many rejections I received in my time. Your film should reflect who you are. After all, the emotions that are shown on the screen are real”, Besson noted.

The French film director also expressed his opinion about Uzbek cinematography.

“Uzbekistan is an incredible country. And I believe that the films of Uzbekistan filmmakers deserve to be presented at the Cannes Film Festival. I hope to see them there someday”.
