On the eve of the Day of Remembrance and Honor, the Samarkand State Museum-Reserve has prepared a catalog album “Letters from the Front”. It contains over 80 letters written by people of different nationalities, which are stored in the Documentary Fund of the Museum-Reserve.
“The Documentary Fund of Samarkand State Museum-Reserve has been formed since the end of the 19th century. More than 38 thousand items of storage are registered in this fund, including personal documents, leaflets, posters, newspapers, manuscripts, maps, photo albums of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and photographs. The personal documents of the fund are 9,511 storage units”, says the researcher of the Museum-Reserve Sh. Sattarov.

There are personal documents of such writers as Abdulla Kahhor, Mirtemir, and Asqad Mukhtar. The collection of personal documents contains many items related to World War II. Among them, letters from the front are of particular interest. These letters were received by the Samarkand Museum in different years. For example, the personal documents of Rasul Usmanov, a participant in World War II, were provided in 1979 by Toshpulat Usmanov. Personal documents of G. Khodasevich (Gazaryan), born in 1922, were handed over by him to the Documentary Fund in 1985.
Although the letters in the catalog are personal correspondence of war veterans and their relatives, and family members, the ideas expressed in them enrich our understanding of that period and, most importantly, call us to appreciate every moment of a peaceful and tranquil life.
