Fergana hosted a meeting between the Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers – Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of the Kyrgyz Republic Kamchybek Tashiev, the Chairman of the State Committee for National Security of the Republic of Tajikistan Saimumin Yatimov, and the Chairman of the State Security Service of the Republic of Uzbekistan A. Azizov.
The parties discussed the problems of ensuring regional security in an open and trusting atmosphere. Views were exchanged on the state and prospects of cooperation in the fight against terrorism, extremism, drug trafficking, illegal migration, smuggling, and other threats and challenges of a cross-border nature. The issues of cross-border cooperation and, in general, the creation of favorable conditions for developing good-neighborly relations between the parties’ states were touched upon.
During the dialogue, the agenda items related to the delimitation of state borders between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Tajikistan, as well as issues of demarcation of borders between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Kyrgyz Republic, were considered constructively.
The participants reached agreements on accelerating the processes of delimitation of the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan and demarcation of the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan state borders and identified practical measures to resolve these issues based on consideration of the parties’ mutual interests.
Following the negotiations, the members of the Kyrgyzstan-Tajikistan Intergovernmental Commission were given specific instructions on coordinating the remaining sections of the border and preparing and signing an appropriate bilateral agreement.
