Uzbekistan delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov met with the Chair of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic Akylbek Zhaparov, in Bishkek.
According to the Kyrgyz Kabar News Agency, the Chair of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic noted that the country aims at further comprehensive strengthening and building up relations between Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan based on friendship and good neighborliness, common history, culture, traditions, language and spiritual values.
“We propose to create conditions for increasing mutual trade by creating joint ventures, livestock clusters, logistics centers, a free economic zone in the border area between the Kyrgyz Republic and the Republic of Uzbekistan to achieve the task set by the heads of the two states to bring the volume of trade up to $2 billion”, said Akylbek Zhaparov.
He continued that within the framework of Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan Development Fund, the Kyrgyz side at the initial stage proposes such priority projects as the construction of a trade and logistics center for border trade in the city of Kyzyl-Kiya, the construction of the “Irkeshtam-Daraot-Korgon-Uch-Korgon” highway connecting this center with the multimodal transport corridor “China-Kyrgyzstan-Uzbekistan”.
The Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan emphasized the focus of the Uzbek side on ensuring the practical implementation of all previously reached agreements between the two states and deepening bilateral cooperation. Sardor Umurzakov expressed hope for the successful activities of the Uzbekistan – Kyrgyzstan Development Fund.
The parties discussed the current issues of bilateral cooperation in trade, economic, water, energy, investment, agricultural, transport and logistics sectors. Issues related to the implementation of the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project were discussed.
