Samarkand hosted the first international business forum “Attracting foreign direct investment for the development of Uzbekistan”.

The forum, organized by Boursa National in cooperation with AlShall Consulting Kuwait and Samarkand Regional Hokimiyat, was attended by businesspeople of the member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Samarkand region’s Hokim Erkinjon Turdimov welcomed forum participants and gave detailed information about the region and its economic opportunities, conditions created for foreign investors. He also spoke about cooperation with Arab countries and joint investment projects.

The amount of funds allocated for these purposes is $101.7 million. The project “Equipping clinics of medical higher education institutions and republican clinical hospitals with modern medical equipment” is being implemented with the participation of the Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development. The total cost of this project is about $2.5 million. Promising projects in the districts of the region together with Masdar company, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development of the United Arab Emirates and other financial structures are also being implemented.

Business representatives, large businesspeople working in Kuwait, and investors expressed their opinions on possible joint projects. Views were exchanged on attracting direct investment to the regions.
