Not only Uzbekistan, but the entire world of sports will remember August 9 as a historic day.
It was the day when Uzbekistan chess players conquered the chess Olympus and became champions of the World Chess Olympiad, and the opening ceremony of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games took place in the Turkish city of Konya, which brought a new spirit and new mood to the international sports arena.
At the ceremony, the President of the Republic of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdogan delivered a welcoming speech, greeted the athletes of all participating countries and honored guests and solemnly announced the opening of the 5th Islamic Solidarity Games.
On August 9, Uzbekistan athletes took part in the drawing of medals in 5 sports.
The tennis players, unfortunately, performed unsuccessfully in the team competition, and Azizbek Boynazarov, who had already won 2 medals in para-swimming, was third in the 100-meter breaststroke swim to the finish line. Uzbekistan’s taekwondo athlete Charos Qayumova also won a bronze medal in the weight of 53 kilograms.
Athletes of Uzbekistan with 3 gold, 2 silver and 6 bronze medals are in fourth place.
