15:21 / 2020-12-17

Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) is holding a two-day online workshop to discuss the results of the implementation of two greening projects in the area adjacent to Navoi FEZ.

KOICA representatives noted that the projects were implemented jointly with the Hokimiyat of Navoi region. Protective forest plantations were planted on 140 hectares adjacent to Navoi FEZ within the framework of the first project, which will block the path of sandstorms and winds. A nursery for seedlings was created for greater adaptability of the plants. The project costed $2.5 million.

The Korean side informed local specialists with advanced technologies and provided necessary equipment for the creation of afforestation. Korea Uzbekistan Friendship Forest was created to commemorate the very first joint forestry project between the two countries. A park was built to demonstrate advanced technologies in forestry and recreation for the local population.

The project was implemented by Suppro Co., Ltd. and SK Forest Co., Ltd. They developed the master plan and constructed the nursery, as well as trained Uzbekistan forestry specialists in Korea.

11 thousand seedlings were planted and four wells were drilled for additional irrigation of the green zone around Navoi FEZ within the framework of the second project. To increase the survival rate of seedlings, the project participants who will take care of them were additionally trained. A manual describing the best international and Korean practices in gardening has been developed.

The project contributed to training forestry specialists and human resources development.

The online workshop continues.
