June 20 – Day of the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty
The Declaration on the state sovereignty of Uzbekistan was adopted on June 20, 1990, at the second session of the Supreme Council of the former Uzbek SSR.
The document, consisting of twelve paragraphs, emphasizes that the Uzbek people have the right to self-determination based on their historical experience and rich traditions of state building, and the highest goal is to ensure every person the right to a decent life.
The state sovereignty of Uzbekistan was proclaimed deeply aware of the historical responsibility for the fate of Uzbekistan people, based on international legal norms, universal values and principles of democracy.
The Declaration played an important role in achieving the independence of the country and the subsequent formation of a sovereign state.
