12:35 / 2022-12-18

UI GreenMetric international rating agency announced the results of Overall Rankings 2022.

According to the results of the rating, Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute took 1st place among higher education institutions of Uzbekistan in the international rating.

This has been reported by the Press Service of Jizzakh Polytechnic Institute.

UI GreenMetric World University Rankings is a global ranking of environmental universities. The University of Indonesia has held it since 2010.

The authors of the rating seek to attract the attention of the scientific community to the need for a policy of sustainable development of the environment to solve some environmental problems. The main rating criteria include indicators such as saving energy consumption, rational use of water resources, waste storage, and processing, use of environmentally eco-friendly vehicles, and the area of green areas on campus.

In the rating, the main attention is paid to the indicators of educational and scientific activity in this field.

The developers used six criteria to create the rating, each of which includes several indicators:

University environment and infrastructure (coefficient – 15 percent), including 6 indicators. Among them are both specific ecological indicators that describe the relationship of the university campus to the natural environment (for example, the percentage of the campus area covered by vegetation in the form of forests, and indicators that are widely used in major academic rankings: number of students, number of academic and administrative staff).

Effective energy use and impact on climate change (21 percent). It includes 8 indicators, such as the use of energy-saving equipment, renewable energy sources, total energy consumption per year (kWh * hours), etc.

Waste processing (18 percent). It includes 6 indicators that assess the university’s waste management capabilities (university waste disposal program, toxic waste disposal program, policy to reduce the use of paper and plastic on campus, etc.).

Rational use of water resources (10 percent). There are only 4 indicators: the water-saving program and the use of tap water.

Transport policy (18 percent). It includes 8 indicators (the number of vehicles belonging to the university, the number of cars entering the university area every day, the number of bicycles moving in the university area every day, the traffic policy aimed at limiting or reducing car parking on campus, etc.).

Education (18 percent). It includes 7 indicators that evaluate the activities of universities in creating and disseminating environmental knowledge (educational courses on environmental issues, scientific funds aimed at studying environmental problems, the number of published scientific works related to the environment, etc.).

The green rating has several undeniable advantages compared to other ratings.
