Japanese experience: An international dialogue on renewable energy sources
21:31 / 2026-01-26

On the occasion of the International Day of Clean Energy, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), in collaboration with the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan, held a roundtable to expand market mechanisms for the development of renewable energy and to discuss advanced international experience.

Representatives from government agencies, international partners, and experts discussed mechanisms to reduce financial risks for renewable energy projects. Particular attention was paid to Japan’s experience in transitioning from the “Feed-in Tariff” (FiT) system to the “Feed-in Premium” (FiP) system and to competitive auctions, as well as the possibilities for their application in Uzbekistan’s conditions.

The meeting was organized within the framework of the joint project to promote innovative solutions for decarbonization, funded by the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan and UNDP, with financial support from the Government of Japan.

Speakers at the event emphasized the importance of ongoing reforms in the energy sector, international cooperation, and private sector participation in this process. Issues related to the development of renewable energy policy in Uzbekistan, competitive procurement, and compliance with climate commitments were discussed.

The event concluded with an award ceremony for the winners of the national school competition “Let’s help our planet breathe”, held in honor of the International Day of Clean Energy.
