The International Caravanserai of Culture of the Academy of Arts of Uzbekistan hosted the opening ceremony of an exhibition of samples of traditional Japanese sushi “Love for Sushi”, timed to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Uzbekistan and Japan.
As Ambassador of Japan Takashi Hatori noted, the exhibition aims at presenting in more detail and deeply revealing the appeal of sushi, which has become a familiar dish of Japanese cuisine.
“The history of sushi has more than 1000 years”, the Ambassador notes. – The type of sushi that most likely comes to mind is rolls (maki-zushi), but the most famous sushi in Japan is nigiri-zushi. However, this type of sushi spread throughout Japan in the second half of the 19th century and is a new type of our national food. I would like to note that in 2013 sushi-washoku was included in the list of the intangible cultural heritage of UNESCO. We would be happy if, through this exhibition, you will get acquainted with the history, as well as different types of sushi.
The exhibition, which will run until March 5, also features 19 reproductions of ukiyo-e prints by famous Japanese artists.
