On May 8, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan chaired a meeting with the heads of the chambers of the Oliy Majlis, political parties, judicial and executive authorities, and representatives of the public. The results of the referendum held on April 30 this year on adopting the renewed Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan were considered at the meeting.
Member of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Jakhongir Shirinov spoke about the work on implementing the norms reflected in the Basic Law.
“Our citizens took an active part in developing and adopting a renewed Constitution of Uzbekistan. There is a reason that the Constitution is called the “passport of the people”. After completion, the Basic Law was returned to the people in a renewed form to obtain its approval.
The most significant number of norms reflected in the renewed Constitution is aimed at ensuring citizens' rights and freedoms and improving the people's well-being. To implement them, first of all, it is necessary to outline an action plan, adopt several laws and introduce appropriate changes and additions to existing ones – these are the tasks facing the deputies.
In our Basic Law, there is a rule according to which the measures of legal influence applied to a person must be proportionate to his deeds. This, in turn, will lead to a complete overhaul of existing enforcement laws.
Therefore, we, the deputies, will have to improve the legislation further, bring it into line with the Constitution, and develop mechanisms to implement documents. Now people’s deputies must exercise parliamentary control over implementing the norms laid down in the Constitution.
It is necessary to listen to the information, read each official’s reports, and improve the work in this area.
