Tashkent hosted the meeting of Uzbekistan – Hungary Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation under the chairmanship of Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó.
It was attended by heads of ministries, agencies and diplomatic missions of the two countries.

The parties exchanged views on the opening of a branch of the University of Debrecen, the introduction of educational programs in universities of Uzbekistan, and increasing the number of educational grants annually allocated by Hungary for Uzbekistan citizens.

Under the memorandum signed in 2020, the Hungarian government annually allocates 100 educational grants for undergraduate, graduate and doctoral studies. Minister of Higher and Secondary Special Education A. Toshkulov and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary Péter Szijjártó signed the “Protocol on introducing amendments to the Memorandum of Cooperation within the framework of the Hungarian Scholarship Program (“Stipendium Hungaricum”) in 2020-2023”. Starting from the 2023/2024 academic year, the number of annual educational grants allocated by Hungary is planned to be increased to 170.
