Uzbekistan diplomats in Istanbul visited the General Directorate of the Mint and Stamp Printing House under the Ministry of Treasury and Finance of Turkey.
Uzbekistan delegation held talks with Abdullah Yasir Şahin, General Manager of the Mint and Stamp Printing House.
The parties considered issues of establishing cooperation between the General Directorate and the State Production Association “Davlat Belgisi” under the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, including the organization of retraining courses for specialists.
The Turkish side noted that, according to various sources, the first coins were minted on the territory of present-day Turkey in the 9th century by small principalities and states. The first mint was founded by Fatih Sultan Mehmet in the Bayezid Mosque in Istanbul. Although there is no documented data on the date of the creation of the mint, 1467 is considered the official year of foundation. This year is on the first gold coin with the name of Fatih Sultan Mehmet.
The mint, located in the Besiktas district, previously operated in the residence of the Turkish sultans in the Topkapı Palace (1723-1967), which today houses a printing factory that is used by the mint.
In addition to gold coins, ingots (standard and decorated), jewelry are also made from gold. It also mints circulating Turkish liras (copper/nickel/zinc), kurush (copper/zinc, copper/nickel/zinc), commemorative coins, medallions, faleristics, stamps, produces passports, government documents, plastic cards and securities.
