Issues of combating climate change considered

The third conference of the parliamentary section of the Non-Aligned Movement on “Strengthening the activities of parliament in combating climate change” took place in Geneva. The event was also attended by a delegation of the Parliament of Uzbekistan led by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Strategies to strengthen the role of parliaments in the fight against climate change were discussed at the conference and attended by 53 delegations from the world’s parliaments and international structures.

Addressing the conference, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Tanzila Narbayeva, noted that the parliaments of the world should commit themselves to taking emergency measures to reduce the negative impact of humans on our planet.

Mrs. Narbayeva drew the participants’ attention to the need to create conditions for investing in green technologies and related infrastructure.

At the conference, organizational issues were considered regarding the formation of the Bureau and the standing commission of the parliamentary section of the Non-Aligned Movement and the provision of observer status to international organizations under this section. Appropriate decisions were made on these issues.

Following the event, the Geneva Declaration was adopted based on the results of the issues considered.
