ISRS hosts meetings with European experts

The Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies hosted meetings of the First Deputy Director A. Nematov with the Chief Advisor and Research Fellow of the Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary László Vasa, President of the Institute for European Perspective and Security (IPSE, France) Emmanuel Dupuy, as well as the Deputy Mayor of Toulouse Maxime Boyer, who arrived in Uzbekistan to observe the referendum on the adoption of changes to the Constitution.

The guests were thoroughly informed about the ongoing reforms in Uzbekistan and the essence and significance of the constitutional reform. Foreign partners noted that the referendum, based on universal and equal will, is a historic event for Uzbekistan people, and will launch a radical transformation of the country’s political system, strengthen the foundations of a democratic rule of law and a socially oriented market economy.

The parties exchanged views on issues of maintaining regional stability and security. The European side highly appreciated the role of Uzbekistan in the consolidation of the Central Asian region, and the numerous efforts of the leadership of Uzbekistan to open borders, resolve border issues, and normalize trade.

According to experts, the Central Asian region, turning into a space of dialogue, good neighborliness, trust and mutually beneficial cooperation, has significantly increased its resistance to internal and external challenges, creating the necessary prerequisites for the progressive sustainable development of Central Asia.

The participants of the meeting paid special attention to the situation in Afghanistan. The importance of joint work to promote the establishment of peace, social and economic development of the country was emphasized.

Following the meetings, the parties expressed interest in establishing partnerships, agreed on cooperation through specialized analytical centers of Uzbekistan, France and Hungary and holding joint events in all areas.
