On 23 April 2021, a Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan, Ismatulla Irgashev, met with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan, Yoshinori Fujiyama, Uzbekistan MFA reports.

The parties discussed the efforts of the two countries to enhance cooperation in the Afghan direction.

The Japanese side expressed its readiness to continue actively contributing to the establishment of a long-term and sustainable peace in Afghanistan, the restoration of its socio-economic infrastructure in the interests of the entire Afghan people.

In this regard, the importance of the upcoming International Conference “Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities” was noted.

Views were also exchanged on the further development of the situation in Afghanistan and the efforts of the international community to promote the inter-Afghan negotiation process.
