On April 12, 2022, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Afghanistan Ismatulla Irgashev met with the U.S. Congressional Staff Members of the House of Representatives, as well as key relevant committees of the U.S. Congress, who arrived in Uzbekistan within the framework of the UN Foundation Program.

Current issues of relations between Uzbekistan and the United States in areas of mutual interest were discussed during the conversation. The observed positive dynamics of inter-parliamentary ties, which are manifested in the organization of mutual visits of representatives of the legislative bodies of the two countries, the creation of a Caucus on Uzbekistan in 2018, was noted with satisfaction.

Information was provided about the position and vision of Uzbekistan on preventing a humanitarian catastrophe in Afghanistan, as well as the integration of this country into international and regional economic processes.

The Congressional Staff Members highly appreciated the concrete measures taken by the Uzbek side to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.

The meeting was also attended by the UNICEF Representative in Uzbekistan, Munir Mammadzade, and Senior Vice President at the UN Foundation, Peter Yeo.
