Several events are being held in Samarkand on the occasion of the First President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov’s birth.

Hokim of Samarkand region E. Turdimov and representatives of the public visited the mausoleum of Islam Karimov.

Flowers were laid at the Monument to Islam Karimov, erected near Registan Square. The gathered expressed warm words recalling the life and great deeds of the First President. 

Islam Karimov is the founder of independent Uzbekistan, an outstanding statesman and political figure, thanks to whom the whole world learned about the country. He selflessly worked for its development and prosperity. His multifaceted political activities and noble human qualities have a special place in the hearts of the country’s people.

Islam Karimov was born and raised in Samarkand and spent his youth on this sacred land, so he treated it with a special love. According to his will, he was buried near the Hazrati Hizr mosque in Samarkand.

At the initiative of the Head of the state, a mausoleum complex of Islam Karimov has been built here, and this place is always crowded with pilgrims.
