President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov arrived October 9 in the city of Minsk, Belarus, to take part in the regular session of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) Council of the Heads of State.

Major events of the CIS summit meeting are scheduled for October 10.

President Islam Karimov is to attend the highest-level assemblies held, as the tradition goes, in contracted and extended formats. The summit agenda includes discussion of the state of affairs and prospects of the multifaceted cooperation among the Commonwealth member nations.

The session is anticipated to produce a range of documents designed to bolster the interaction within the CIS across diverse areas.
