On 1-4 September, Tashkent hosted the 46th Annual Meetings of the IsDB Board of Governors “Respond, Restore, Restart: Post-COVID Resilience and Prosperity for All”.
At the Closing Press Conference, IsDB President Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser expressed his deepest gratitude and appreciation to the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev for honoring the Annual Meetings with his presence and patronage.
IsDB President also expressed his most profound appreciation to the government and people of Uzbekistan, the various ministries and agencies, for their tireless efforts to ensure these meetings’ success.
“The extraordinary hospitality and care extended to all of us during our stay are greatly appreciated by all participants. In addition, the exceptional arrangements put in place despite the unprecedented circumstances have enabled us to carry out our work smoothly and safely”, said Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser.
He informed that this year, the Annual Meetings featured IsDB Group Board meetings and more than 25 side events. These included seminars with eminent personalities, thought leaders, academia, and other development experts. More than 4,100 participants from 46 member countries attended, and 27 international and regional partner organizations joined the in-person meetings. The topics discussed throughout the week, especially during the Governors' Roundtable, will contribute to shaping the Bank's work in the coming years.
IsDB President also announced the signing of around 30 financing agreements totaling US$ 1.2 billion between IsDB Group and ten member countries, covering operations and projects in various sectors: health (COVID-19 and Vaccines), water and sanitation, agriculture, transport, energy, food security, Islamic finance, SMEs. These included US$ 330 million in favor of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
Talking about prospects, Muhammad Sulaiman Al Jasser noted that his top priority is to ensure the relevance of IsDB Group products and offerings to the needs and aspirations of the member countries and clients and ensure the institution's financial sustainability. Undivided attention will be given to the IsDB Group’s human capital, the key driver in delivering his vision and plan.
IsDB President announced that the next Annual Meeting of the IsDB will take place in Egypt in 2022.
