Involving citizens in public administration
On October 11, the National Association of Electronic Mass Media of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting of experts on “Involving citizens in the process of transformation of society, economy and institutions”.
On October 11, the National Association of Electronic Mass Media of Uzbekistan hosted a meeting of experts on “Involving citizens in the process of transformation of society, economy and institutions”.
The event was organized by the Development Strategy Center in cooperation with the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the United Nations Development Programme, the British Embassy in Uzbekistan and other organizations. Measures taken to involve citizens in public administration within the framework of implementation of reforms and achievement of sustainable development goals were discussed at the event.
Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis S.Artikova, Chairman of the Committee of the Lower Chamber of the Oliy Majlis on Innovative Development, Information Policy and Information Technologies I.Abdullayev, Executive Director of the Development Strategy Center A.Burkhonov, UNDP Resident Representative for the Republic of Uzbekistan H.Fraser and others noted that large-scale activity is being carried out in Uzbekistan on expanding citizen’s participation in state and public affairs, Administrative Reform Concept adopted in 2017 contributes to formation of new public administration model.
Preliminary results of the study on “Development of citizens’ participation in formation of new public administration model in Uzbekistan”, conducted in cooperation with the UNDP within the framework of “Promoting effective public administration and digital transformation development” project were announced at the event. Participants focused on the current state of citizens’ participation in Uzbekistan in this direction, international experience in this area, as well as, necessary recommendations for Uzbekistan were given.
At the event, views and proposals were expressed on identifying and addressing problems arising during informing the population about the reform process, in practice of studying and responding to complaints. This is important for improving the efficiency of administrative reforms in Uzbekistan and achieving sustainable development goals.
