More than $15 million will be invested by Air Products in the production of high-purity carbon dioxide in Uzbekistan. The project will be implemented on the ammonia production line of the Navoiazot Chemical Complex.
Air Products is a leading global industrial gas company and a leader in energy transition projects. JSC Navoiazot produces more than 30 percent of the country’s total chemical products. Their agreement includes the development, construction, ownership, and operation of a carbon dioxide production facility in Uzbekistan. The new facility, the first of its kind in the country, will use raw CO2 captured from the ammonia production line to produce high-purity CO2.
The plant’s production capacity will be 120 tons per day, the largest and most sustainable CO2 production in the country. Implementing the project will allow the country to reduce its consumption of natural gas, which is currently the main source of CO2 production, while supporting its environmental agenda.
It is expected that after commissioning at the end of this year, the plant will be able to meet the market demand for a continuous and reliable supply of high-purity CO2 in such segments as beverage production, modified atmosphere food packaging, welding mixtures, blast-freezing of food products, agro-industrial complex, greenhouses, water purification, dry ice production, cryomedicine, transport. CO2 is also widely used to produce fire extinguishers, paper and glass, and stage fog.
The contract was signed in 2023, and the plant’s construction is active. It will be completed by the end of 2024.
