Investments from Japan in the livestock sector of Uzbekistan

Chairman of the State Committee for Veterinary Medicine and Livestock Development Bakhrom Norkobilov met with the Head of the Department for Central Asia and the Caucasus at Japan International Cooperation Agency Kenji Ogasahara.

During the conversation, the development of the project “Development of the livestock sector in Uzbekistan” with the participation of the Japan International Cooperation Agency was discussed. The $200 million project covers supporting farms, financing production and processing enterprises in the livestock sector, and entities involved in animal feed production. In addition, the parties defined the launch of a system for collecting livestock products grown in the homes of the population through the creation of family cooperatives as a priority in the project.

At the meeting, issues of improving the qualifications of specialists in Japan and attracting Japanese experts to Uzbekistan were considered. An agreement was reached on implementing the “Technical Assistance” project, improving the material and technical base of research institutes, higher education institutions, diagnostic centers, and laboratories.

Following the talks, an action plan was adopted to implement the “Development of the livestock sector in Uzbekistan” project.
