International standards for recognizing fakes

The Second Global Media Forum continues in Shusha.

Conference participant and Scientific Director of the CeSPI Italian Center for International Policy Studies Valeria Giannotta shared her opinion with the UzA correspondent on the issues discussed at the sessions:

– Disinformation is becoming a crucial issue nowadays in our current environment. In this process, the digitalization observed in all areas plays an important role: we are surrounded by technological breakthroughs, we often turn to the World Wide Web, and the availability of information deprives us of our understanding of the reliability of what we see, read, and hear.

At the same time, the same neural networks that serve as valuable tools in automating specific processes are often used to reinforce false information with dubious facts. Although we are well aware of the problem and understand its scale, we still lack sufficient mechanisms and methods of counteraction and response.

When tackling the issue of disinformation, it is vital to leverage international experience and adopt global standards, including UN programs. This strategy can help us devise robust mechanisms for identifying false, destructive information that misleads people. Moreover, introducing advanced fact-checking methods using artificial intelligence offers hope in our fight against disinformation, reassuring us that we are making significant progress.
