On September 20-21, 2018, Tashkent will host an international conference on “Central Asia in the system of international transport corridors: strategic prospects and unrealized opportunities”.

Regular conference of the International Press Club held on September 17, was dedicated to this major event.

The session was attended by the Chairman of the State Committee of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Roads Abdurakhmon Abduvaliyev, First Deputy Chairman of Uzbekistan Railways JSC Fazliddin Sagdullayev, Head of the Uzbek Agency of Road Transport Davron Dehkonov, First Deputy General Director of Uzbekistan Airways NAC Umid Khusanov, responsible employee of the Ministry for Foreign Trade Azizbek Salokhiddinov, as well as representatives of relevant ministries and agencies, journalists.

As it was noted at the event, transport-transit potential of Central Asia, in particular, of Uzbekistan, is determined by geostrategic position of the region, which serves as a bridge between East and West, North and South. This approach provides for formation of a single integrated transport hub, which will serve as a key transit connection between the world markets of the region.

The improvement of transport infrastructure is an important factor in advanced development of economic sectors. In this regard, Development and Modernization Program of Engineering-Communication and Road-Transport Infrastructure for 2015-2019 has been adopted in Uzbekistan.

This program will enable the development of a new road-transport infrastructure, which allows to attract additional traffic, formation of effective methods of creating favorable conditions for development of transport-logistics potential of the region.

The participants discussed opportunities for participating in international cargo transportation with an access of Uzbekistan to the ports of Asia-Pacific region and China, the European Union, Russia, Caucasus and Indian Ocean. They were informed about a project on creating Uzbekistan – Turkmenistan – Iran – Oman transport corridor.

Journalists received answers from authorized persons to their questions concerning security of transit corridors connecting Central Asia with South, procedure for application of common tariffs for transit cargo transportation through the territory of neighboring countries on airlines, roads and railways, practical significance of the upcoming international conference in the early transformation of Central Asian countries into an international transport hub.
