Long-term OSCE/ODIHR observers Christian Oliver Hynek and Tsengel Erdenebat visited the editorial offices of the newspapers “Surkhon Tongi” and “Zarya Surkhana” in Surkhandarya region. They got acquainted with the conditions created for campaign work and the process of covering an essential political campaign in the media.
These days, long-term observers in the southern oasis of the country are closely studying the preparations for the elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and local Councils, which will be held on October 27 this year.

At the meeting, the Editor-in-Chief of the newspapers, Salokhiddin Norkabilov, informed about the coverage of the election campaign work of political parties, organized based on the updated election law. He also explained the procedure for using equal print space provided to candidates for deputies and political parties during election campaigning. He noted that the region has all the opportunities for holding open, transparent elections and comprehensive coverage of an important political campaign.

Following the dialogue, the guests got acquainted with the conditions created for the editorial staff and observed the process of publishing newspapers.
