On April 8, 2011, ITU announced the establishment of an International Girls in ICT Day, which is celebrated every year on the fourth Thursday of April. Girls in different parts of the world gathered on April 28, 2011, in order to celebrate the first annual International Girls in ICT Day. This year, it fell on April 26, that was yesterday, but tomorrow is exactly seven years since the girls first celebrated the event.

This day was established and supported by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) as part of the program of measures on addressing digital gender gap. To date, over 300,000 girls and young women have taken part in more than 9,000 celebrations of International Girls in ICT Day in 166 countries worldwide.

International Girls in ICT Day is a global event aimed at helping girls and young women to choose the direction of their education and profession in science, technology and mathematics and emphasizes the importance of women in the technology sector.

In the coming years, tens of millions of jobs for people with high-level digital skills will appear in the world, and all jobs will require possession of at least initial digital skills.

This holiday emphasizes the importance of female in development of information and communication technologies and stimulates girls to choose a profession in the field of high technologies.
