International experience is needed in public services provision

Independent Institute for Monitoring the Formation of Civil Society and the Development Strategy Center held a roundtable discussion on “Improving the system of providing public services: Uzbekistan’s experience and international practice”, in Tashkent.
Importance of foreign experience in provision of public services in the country were discussed at the event with participation of the UNDP Resident Representative for the Republic of Uzbekistan Helena Fraser, OSCE Project Co-ordinator in Uzbekistan John MacGregor, and British Ambassador to Uzbekistan Christopher Allan.
Proposals were made on optimizing and further simplifying the process of providing services, introducing innovative forms that improve the effectiveness of the state governing bodies and other organizations’ activities.
It was noted that creation of Public Services Agency under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Uzbekistan became one of the important steps in this direction.
Appeals received at the People’s reception offices show the presence of shortcomings in many areas. In particular, bureaucracy, excessive red tape, corruption, ostentatious work become an obstacle to development of the state and ensuring people’s well-being. The present time calls for an immediate solution to these problems.
There are more than two hundred public service centers in the country. They provide about one hundred types of services to legal entities and individuals. In 2017, the centers provided over one hundred and twenty thousand services, for 8 months in 2018, this figure exceeded 2 million.
Exchange of views will further enhance cooperation of national and international experts in the process of improving the quality and timeliness of public services that contribute to improvement of people’s lives.
