The Committee of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on Labor and Social Issues organized a roundtable discussion on “The essence and significance of the ILO Convention “On the Establishment of Minimum Wages” and issues of its implementation in the national legislation”.

The Chairman of the Committee Mavluda Khujayeva noted that systemic work is being carried out in the country aimed at improving the procedure for determining the amount of wages, and the issue of determining the minimum wage is also provided for in the new edition of the Labor Code and the draft Constitutional Law. The importance of studying the opinions of experts and representatives of the field on the implementation and subsequent ratification of the ILO Convention “On the Establishment of Minimum Wages” in the national legislation was emphasized.

“187 countries of the world are members of the International Labour Organization”, said a member of the Committee on Labor and Social Issues Adkham Nazirkulov. – ILO adopted 189 conventions. Uzbekistan has ratified ILO’s 19 conventions and 1 protocol. The Convention concerning Minimum Wage Fixing, with Special Reference to Developing Countries, was adopted on June 22, 1970, at the 54th session of the Organization. It has been ratified by 52 Member States, 11 of which have ratified the document since 2000.

In general, the ratification of this Convention will expand the possibilities for the protection of employees. For example, now in Uzbekistan, the minimum wage is 920,000 UZS. If the Convention is ratified, this amount will increase.

At the meeting, the participants agreed to study in detail the issue of ratifying this Convention and develop proposals and recommendations.
