International Chess Tournament timed to Georgy Agzamov’s memory kicks off in Tashkent
Tashkent hosted the opening ceremony of the XV International Chess Tournament dedicated to the memory of the first grandmaster of Uzbekistan Georgy Agzamov.
Over 200 chess players from 14 countries are taking part in the tournament.


Umida Omonova, the winner of the World Cadet and Youth Rapid and Blitz Chess Championships in Rhodes, Greece and Humoyun Bekmurodov, the silver medalist, will arrive in Uzbekistan tonight. They will start their participation in this tournament tomorrow.
In the first round (rating 2163), a 17-year-old chess player from Uzbekistan’s Kashkadarya Davron Sharipov defeated Azerbaijani international grandmaster Vugar Asadli (2578).
