Interagency cooperation in countering violent extremism to be strengthened

A meeting of the interdepartmental working group on countering violence took place, organized jointly with the Senate Committee on Youth, Women, Culture and Sports, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, and the Regional Project of GIZ “Prevention of Violent Extremism in Central Asia”.

Senators, Children’s Ombudsman, senior officials from several ministries and agencies, as well as members of the Youth Parliament, attended the meeting, which was held on “Joint actions to combat violence: protecting women’s and children’s rights, strengthening interdepartmental cooperation against violent extremism”.

Issues of preventing violence against women and children, organizing systematic work with young people, increasing women’s activity in the prevention process, as well as improving the mechanisms of interaction between government agencies were considered at the meeting.

In her speech, Chair of the Senate Committee on Youth, Women, Culture and Sports, Orzigul Kozikhonova stressed the importance of coordinated efforts by state and non-state structures in combating violence. The need for active participation of youth and women in this process, increasing the effectiveness of preventive measures at early stages, especially at the mahalla level, was noted.

The Chairperson of the Youth Parliament at the Senate, Laylo Aslonova, suggested holding training workshops in the regions to improve young people’s media literacy.

Following the event, the participants made suggestions and recommendations for further improvement of the work carried out in this area and improvement of relevant legislation and interaction mechanisms.
