A regional seminar-training has been held in the capital city Tashkent for employees of the information services of state government and administrative bodies of Tashkent, Sirdaryo and Jizzakh regions.

A regional seminar-training has been held in the capital city Tashkent for employees of the information services of state government and administrative bodies of Tashkent, Sirdaryo and Jizzakh regions.

At this seminar-training held by the public foundation for developing and supporting independent print media and news agencies of Uzbekistan in cooperation with the centre for re-training journalists with help from the OSCE representative office in Uzbekistan, information service employees’ professional qualifications to work with members of the public was upgraded.

The director of the public foundation, A.Abdullayev, and others have said that constant attention is being paid under the leadership of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, to consistent reform of the national media sector and the issue of ensuring citizens’ constitutional right to have access to information.

It was said at the seminar that ensuring the openness and transparency of the work of state government and administrative bodies and regularly informing the population about reforms being implemented in the country were especially important in building a strong civil society.

The law of the Republic of Uzbekistan “On the openness of the work of state government and administrative bodies” makes it possible to completely ensure citizens’ right to access information.

“Today websites that quickly provide reports to the population and regularly update them have an important role,” says Zebo Haydarova, an employee of the press service of the trade unions association of Sirdaryo Region.

At the seminar, speeches were heard on the unique features of the information services of state government and administrative bodies, principles of work with mass media outlets, cooperation ethics and the preparation of information material for media.
