Improving telecommunication networks

The Ministry for Development of Information Technologies and Communications of the Republic of Uzbekistan held a press conference in Tashkent on the state and prospects of development of broadband access.The Deputy Minister for Development of Information Technologies and Communications U.Alamov and others noted that today as a result of large-scale projects for development of telecommunications technologies, networks and communications infrastructure in our country over a third of Internet users connected via broadband access. The resolution of the President Islam Karimov "On measures for further development of national information and communication system of the Republic of Uzbekistan" dated June 27, 2013 has been an important factor in the developments in this sphere.
As a result of introduction of broadband telecommunications infrastructure, fiber-optic communication lines are used in almost all trunk, zonal and inter-station communication forms. Their total length exceeds 16 thousand kilometers. Laying of 6.1 thousand kilometers of broadband fiber-optic communication lines are planned for 2015-2017.
The Ministry for the development of information and communication technologies has licensed over 120 Internet service providers and operators. Over 10 of them provide services based on broadband technology. It should be noted that this technology, along with high-speed internet, provides subscribers the opportunity to receive videophone, Internet television services, as well as to receive HDTV-channels and other telecommunications services.
Joint ventures "Telecom Innovations" and "Olive Telecom" have been established in FIEZ "Navoi" to meet the growing needs of our country in telecommunications equipments. These enterprises manufacture station and subscriber equipment technology xDSL, as well as optical terminals Home Gateway, which, along with the Internet encompass a wide range of multimedia services.
In accordance with the targeted program of development of information and communication technologies in 2015-2019, approved by the head of our state, implementation of nine major investment projects worth a total of 883.7 million dollars is planned, as a results of which the number of ports for the provision of fixed broadband access will increase twenty-fold, over 20 new types of services will be introduced, including further development of the IP-telephony, IPTV.
