Impact of the Erasmus+ Programme on the development of higher education in Uzbekistan discussed

The Erasmus+ National Office in Tashkent, together with the EU Delegation to Uzbekistan and the Higher Education Reform Experts (HEREs), held a two-day webinar on the impact of the Erasmus+ Programme on the Development of Higher Education in Uzbekistan.

The event was attended by the head of the European Union delegation to Uzbekistan, Ambassador Charlotte Adrian and representatives of the ministries of foreign affairs, higher secondary special education, the State Inspectorate for Supervision of the Quality in Education, other ministries and agencies, as well as universities of the EU countries in the country.

The participants discussed the contribution of the Erasmus+ Programme to the modernization of higher education in Uzbekistan in 2017-2021, in particular in the introduction of new and innovative directions in the education system of the country, strengthening the internationalization process, as well as the widespread transition of higher education institutions to a credit-modular system.

Within the framework of six competitions in 2015-2020, 43 projects were financed to increase the potential of higher education, including 12 national projects with the participation of European and Uzbekistan universities, 11 interregional projects and 20 regional projects in partnership with other Central Asian countries.

According to the Erasmus+ National Office in Tashkent, the total budget of these projects with the participation of Uzbekistan amounted to 36.6 million euros, of which 11.5 (31.4%) million euros were allocated for projects in universities in Uzbekistan.

The participants discussed the topics of promising Erasmus+ projects for 2022 to ensure their compliance with the reforms carried out in the country in the political and economic spheres, as well as in higher education, science, innovation, agriculture and healthcare.
