IICA staff held important meetings in Ashgabat
12:27 / 2025-01-15

A delegation of the International Institute for Central Asia visited Ashgabat to establish and expand cooperation with leading Turkmen analytical centers, research institutes, and representatives of international organizations accredited in Turkmenistan.

IICA researchers participated in an international conference on “Joint actions to strengthen international peace and sustainable development”.

It was noted that Turkmenistan’s neutrality is not just a political strategy, but also an essential contribution to international peace and stability. At the same time, it was emphasized that Uzbekistan fully shares the approaches of this fraternal country to strengthening peace, preventing conflicts, and creating conditions for sustainable development through establishing a trusting dialogue at all levels.

At the Scientific Center for Strategic Studies of the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, an exchange of views took place on joint activities within the framework of the implementation of the Cooperation Agreement between IICA and the IIR of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, signed in 2022. In this regard, the main directions of the Cooperation Program between the parties for 2025 were also discussed.

As part of the visit to the International University of Humanities and Development, the prospects for joint scientific research and proposals for cooperation in the educational sphere were discussed. More than 900 students from Turkmenistan are receiving higher education in Uzbekistan, which indicates the fruitful nature of the partnership.

The UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia hosted an exchange of views on the development of regional cooperation, the implementation of the agreements reached at the Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia in 2024 in Astana, and the priorities of Uzbekistan’s chairmanship in this format in 2025.

In general, during the visit, issues of strengthening cooperation with several leading Turkmen institutions and international organizations were discussed in detail, including through the adoption of Cooperation Programs.
