IICA Director meets with the Ambassador of the European Union

Director of the International Institute for Central Asia, Javlon Vakhabov, met with Ms. Charlotte Adriaen, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The parties discussed the progress in implementing the agreements reached by the heads of state of the region and the President of the EU at the second “Central Asia – European Union” summit, which took place on June 2, 2023, in the city of Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan.

On the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the issues of organizing an expert conference “Central Asia – European Union: a new agenda for security cooperation” were considered.

The meeting participants exchanged views on the possibility of developing and launching new regional projects between Central Asia and the EU to combat such threats and challenges as radicalism, terrorism, cybersecurity, organized crime, and human trafficking.

Views were exchanged on organizing a forum of think tanks to discuss issues such as trade and economic cooperation, development of transport corridors, digitalization of the economy, and expansion of tourism.

The parties agreed to continue discussing current issues on the bilateral agenda.
