Iceland hosts World Fischer Random Chess Championship

Iceland hosted the World Fischer Random Chess Championship 2022.

At the international championship with a prize fund of $400 thousand, together with 8 of the world's strongest chess players, Uzbekistan’s grandmaster, world champion in rapid chess, winner of the World Chess Olympiad Nodirbek Abdusattorov also fought for victory.

He scored the most points in group A and advanced to the semifinals, but lost the match. In the fight for third place, he played against Magnus Carlsen.  In the first game, N. Abdusattarov beat an opponent, but in the following games he lost the game. Thus, N.Abdusattorov took fourth place.

Yan Nepomnyashchy and Hikaru Nakamura competed in the final of the tournament and scored 2:2. Hikaru Nakamura won the extra game and became the world champion.
