Human Rights Education: From Declaration to Practice

Global Forum on Human Rights Education has kicked off in Samarkand.

The participants will discuss the problems of developing human rights education based on the initiative put forward by the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan at the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and the 46th session of the Human Rights Council.

Director of the National Center of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Human Rights Akmal Saidov, opening the Global Forum, proposed to hold an event under the motto “Human rights education: from declaration to practice”.

At the opening ceremony, a video message was heard from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk, a greeting from the UN Resident Coordinator in Uzbekistan Munir Mammadzade, a video message from the President of the Human Rights Council, Ambassador Federico Villegas, a greeting from the ODIHR Director Matteo Mecacci, a video message from the Director General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Christos Giakoumopoulos.

The speech of the Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS Sergey Lebedev was read by the Deputy Chairman of the Executive Committee – Executive Secretary of the CIS Beketjan Jumakhanov.

More than 100 representatives of international, regional and foreign organizations are participating in the Global Forum offline and online.

There are also more than 2,000 representatives of 150 national organizations among the forum participants. These are activists from 20 ministries and agencies, 50 higher education institutions and scientific organizations from all regions of the country, more than 60 civil society institutions, including youth organizations.
