On the eve of the celebration of the most significant holiday, the 33rd anniversary of declaration of Independence of Uzbekistan, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has signed a Decree “On pardoning a group of people serving a sentence who sincerely repented of their actions and firmly embarked on the path of correction”.

According to paragraph 23 of Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Decree pardoned 522 people serving sentences for crimes who sincerely repented of their actions and firmly embarked on the path of correction.

Of those pardoned, 159 persons were wholly released from serving the main sentence, 303 persons were released from serving their sentence on parole, and the punishment imposed on 60 persons was replaced with a milder one.

Among those pardoned, 19 are foreign citizens, 56 women, 25 men over 60, 233 persons under the age of 30 (including 1 minor), and 27 persons who participated in the activities of prohibited organizations.

By the Decree, responsible ministries and agencies have been instructed to return pardoned persons to their families and relatives, assist them in social adaptation, involvement in work, choosing a healthy lifestyle and taking a worthy place in society.
