High assessment of reforms in the priority of law and protection of human rights

A meeting was held at the Ministry of Justice of Uzbekistan with a delegation led by Joonas Heiskanen, Head of the Unit for Russia and Central Asia of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland.

Deputy Minister of Justice Muzraf Ikromov spoke about the work carried out in recent years to strengthen relations in justice and law between Uzbekistan and Finland.

Particular mention was made of the activities within the framework of the project “Strengthening the priority of law and protection of human rights in Uzbekistan”, designed for 2023-2025, carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan with the assistance of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland and the UN Development Programme in Uzbekistan.

Joonas Heiskanen highly appreciated the reforms carried out in Uzbekistan in ensuring the priority of law and protection of human rights, noting that access of the population to free legal aid and support for the activities of NGOs play an essential role in citizens achieving justice.

At the meeting, it was also noted that cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland has a positive effect on strengthening the priority of law and protecting the rights of citizens in Uzbekistan. The parties expressed their intention to maintain such cooperation in the future.
