Heads of several international organizations made their presentations at the first plenary session of the Global Forum on the “Implementation of the UN Declaration on Human Rights Education and Training and the World Programme for Human Rights Education: Best Practices, Challenges and Perspectives”.
Coordinator of the Human Rights Education and Training Unit of the UN’s Officer of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) Elena Ippoliti, Secretary General of the National Human Rights Commission of India Devendra Kumar Singh, and Director of the Human Rights Research and Education Centre at the University of Ottawa John Packer delivered speeches at the event. According to them, thanks to this significant event, the attention of the world community is focused on the international education system.
The main attention was paid to the principles and approaches to effective human rights education, achievements, lessons learned and conclusions in the light of technological advances and contemporary challenges in human rights education in various parts of the world.
The plenary session was attended by President and CEO at American Councils for International Education David Patton, Chairperson of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission Hacı Ali Açıkgül, Head of Justice and Human Rights Training Division at the Council of Europe Eva Pastrana. Presentations on relevant themes were held.
