Hangzhou to host an exhibition “Diverse Asia: Asian Costumes” timed to the 2023 Asian Games

The China National Silk Museum in Hangzhou, with the support of the International Council of Museums, will host an exhibition “Diverse Asia: Asian Costumes” dedicated to the 10th Asian Summer Games.

The China National Silk Museum is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located next to the West Lake in Hangzhou. The exhibition area of the museum is approximately 1200 square meters. The museum ranks 9th among almost 6 thousand museums in China.

The exhibition presented about 150 costumes from various regions of Asia. A group of artisans who are the successors of the ancient methods of spinning and embroidery is also invited.

The event aims to demonstrate the mutual influence of Asian countries and their cultural dialogue through sea and land routes along the Great Silk Road. Uzbekistan will be represented by 20 museum exhibits from the collections of the State Museum of Arts of Uzbekistan and Samarkand State Museum-Reserve.

The exposition will demonstrate suzane, chapans, and jewelry. The visitors can get acquainted with the best examples of traditional art by Uzbek artisans. On September 26, Hangzhou will host an event “Uzbekistan Evening”, where the process of making unique Uzbek fabrics will be shown. In this regard, Uzbekistan will present its rich cultural and historical heritage to the international community.

The exhibition “Diverse Asia: Asian Costumes” is organized with the support of the Art and Culture Development Foundation under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

The exhibition will open on September 2 this year and run until November 12, 2023.
