The effective use of renewable energy sources in Uzbekistan, aimed at achieving economic growth and environmental sustainability, is a key current objective. Hydropower plays a priority role in this process, having developed in recent years through major projects and local production.
A practical embodiment of this process is the UzHydroPower plant in Bostanlyk district of Tashkent region, which holds strategic importance for the development of Uzbekistan’s hydropower industry. It contributes to strengthening local production capacity and ensuring the country’s economic independence.
A press tour was organized at the plant, featuring representatives from print and online media, television, and radio. Participants had the opportunity to directly familiarize themselves with the enterprise’s production activities and technological processes.
During the event, guests received detailed information about the plant’s technical capabilities, product range, and local production processes.
According to Golib Pardayev, Director General of UzHydroPower, the enterprise was established within the framework of a strategic partnership with the Chinese company Zhejiang Jinlun Electromechanic Co., Ltd. The plant manufactures modern hydro units with capacities ranging from 1 kW to 40 MW, turbines, generators, water-lifting pump units, and metal structures for reservoirs. In this field, the enterprise is one of the few production facilities not only in Central Asia but also on a global scale.
“At the plant, five production workshops are in operation, equipped with more than 80 modern machines and units. Currently, 255 employees work here, with plans to increase this number to 350 in the future. All necessary conditions have been created for staff: a cafeteria, a dormitory with 100 places, recreation areas, sports grounds, and an outdoor swimming pool”, G. Pardayev said.
It is noteworthy that the hydro units and spare parts produced at the plant are priced lower than similar equipment manufactured abroad. In particular, they are 12 percent cheaper than products from Chinese manufacturers and 27 percent more affordable than those from Russian producers. According to company representatives, starting from 2026, the plant’s products are planned to be exported to neighboring countries.
The plant has introduced a training system based on the “mentor – apprentice” tradition. Young specialists also have the opportunity to improve their qualifications abroad.
It is worth noting that women at the enterprise perform important and responsible roles. In an interview with us, crane operator Zukhra Khayriddinova shared her professional observations.
“Here, all the conditions have been created for women to work on an equal footing with men and to take on responsible tasks. There is a sincere and friendly atmosphere in the team, and everyone supports one another. For us, as employees, the top priority is the strict observance of safety requirements in the course of fulfilling our professional duties”, she said.
In recent years, hydropower capacities amounting to 430 megawatts have been commissioned in the country, bringing the total installed capacity to 2.3 gigawatts. Equipment manufactured at the UzHydroPower plant has been successfully put into operation at several small hydroelectric power stations located in Karakalpakstan and Surkhandarya region.
Currently, the plant is producing equipment for major projects of JSC Uzbekhydroenergo. In particular, preparations and deliveries are underway for specialized equipment for the 90-megawatt Nizhnechatkal Hydroelectric Power Station, currently under construction on the Chatkal River, as well as for the cascade of hydroelectric stations being built on the Naryn River, with a total capacity of 228 MW.
Undoubtedly, the activities of UzHydroPower are aimed at strengthening Uzbekistan’s leading position in the field of hydropower and integrating the country into the ranks of the world’s leading hydropower equipment producers. This will contribute to meeting the needs of the domestic market, developing export potential, enhancing the skills of local specialists, and creating new employment opportunities. The enterprise’s operations ensure the country’s energy security, the efficient use of natural resources, and the introduction of innovative technologies.
