Germany and Central Asian countries expand strategic partnership

The President of Germany Frank-Walter Steinmeier received the foreign ministers of the Central Asian states within the framework of the “Central Asia – Germany” (C5+1) meeting.

The talks were attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan, Yermek Kosherbayev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Bakhtiyor Saidov, as well as the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, Ahmet Gurbanov.

During the discussion, the particular importance of Central Asia as a region of stability, constructive dialogue, and growing international responsibility was emphasized.

The Federal President noted Germany’s consistent efforts to build partnerships with countries in the region, grounded in mutual respect, trust, and long-term cooperation.

The ministers highly assessed the “C5+1” format as an important political platform that contributes to building a systematic dialogue between the parties. It was also emphasized that this format enables the comprehensive addressing of regional issues, taking into account the common interests and priorities of the Central Asian countries.

During the meeting, prospects for cooperation in priority areas were discussed, including the economy and investment, energy and natural resources, industry and technology, the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, the climate agenda and environmental protection, as well as the expansion of people-to-people contacts, education, and scientific exchange.

Particular attention was paid to regional stability and security, as well as to Central Asia’s role as an important link between Europe and Asia. The participants emphasized the importance of dialogue and multilateral cooperation in a complex geopolitical environment.

Mutual interest in strengthening the partnership was reaffirmed, and readiness was expressed to continue regular high-level dialogue under the “Central Asia – Germany” format.

Following the meeting, the Berlin Declaration of the Ministers was adopted, covering a broad range of multilateral cooperation areas and intended to provide additional impetus for the development of this format.

An Economic Forum was also held in Berlin with the participation of the foreign ministers of the Central Asian countries and Germany. The Eastern Committee of the German Economy organized the event.
