Geophysical surveys carried out in Kafirkala

Specialists of the International Institute for Central Asian Studies, with the support of the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Heritage, the National Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan for UNESCO, the Agency for Cultural Heritage and Samarkand Regional Hokimiyat conducted geophysical studies on the territory of the ancient settlement of Kafirkala.

The research was carried out in June this year as part of Uzbekistan – Italian archaeological project. The excavations were carried out by a group of researchers led by Dr. Simone Mantellini in two previously unexplored sites.

This archaeological expedition is part of a four-year project aimed at creating an archaeological park on the territory of Kafirkala. The first stage of the project is the construction of a tourist center.
