On 30-31 March, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade Sardor Umurzakov took part in the 3rd Ministerial Conference of Afghanistan’s neighboring countries in the city of Huangshan, China.
According to Uzbekistan MIFT, members of the governments and heads of foreign affairs agencies of Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan also took part in the conference.
A meeting was held between the Foreign Ministers of the neighboring countries of Afghanistan and the delegation of the Interim Government of Afghanistan led by the Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Amir Khan Muttaqi, which was attended by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia and Qatar as guests.
The ministers discussed issues of multilateral cooperation to stabilize the socio-economic situation in Afghanistan in the post-conflict period. Views were exchanged on the most effective approaches to support Afghanistan in solving internal and external problems. At the same time, the efforts made in this direction by the interim government of the country were noted.
Mr. Sardor Umurzakov emphasized the need for strengthening the coordination of regional cooperation aimed at supporting Afghanistan in overcoming current challenges, reviving the national economy, resolving social issues and normalizing life in the country. It was proposed to develop mechanisms and criteria for international recognition of the interim government of Afghanistan, which will accelerate the integration of the country into the regional space and the international community.
Following the conference, a joint statement of the parties and the Tunxi Initiative to support the economic recovery of Afghanistan were adopted.
