The Spring festival of Navruz, the oriental New Year, is directly connected with the coming of spring and is celebrated on 21 March, on the spring (vernal) equinox, when day becomes equal to night.

On Navruz people make special preparations. They clean their houses, courts and streets they live in. On this day people cook festal meals, the principal dish sumalak cooked only once a year, for Navruz, to which they treat their friends, relatives and all who happen to visit them at this time. 

On the occasion of the holiday, Uzbekistan National News Agency (UzA) prepared a photo collection of Navruz celebrations from previous years.
