Samarkand Web Forum “Youth 2020: Global Solidarity, Sustainable Development and Human Rights” will kick off today.

Samarkand Web Forum “Youth 2020: Global Solidarity, Sustainable Development and Human Rights” will kick off today.

It is planned to discuss the draft International Convention on Youth Rights, the adoption of which was initiated by the President of Uzbekistan at the 72nd UN General Assembly. The forum will not only serve as a platform for discussing problems and youth role in modern realities, but will also become the next step towards the adoption of the UN International Convention on the Rights of Youth.

The draft provides for creation of the Committee on the Rights of Youth, another UN Human Rights Treaty Body. Special attention is paid to collection of statistics on youth and participation of civil society in ensuring youth rights, which reflects the latest trends in human rights and is an important condition for effective monitoring.

The forum participants can become acquainted with the draft Convention, take part in discussions, give their suggestions and comments for further improvement of the document.
