French teachers teach in Samarkand schools
16:37 / 2023-10-31

Today, we would like to talk about specialized secondary school No. 43 in Samarkand.

French is taught as a foreign language in more than 50 schools in the city, but in this school, it is studied in depth. Therefore, this school is considered a specialized educational institution.

“Our school was opened in 1972 with precisely this direction”, said the Director of the school No. 43, Gulnoza Chutboyeva. “Over the past period, great changes have occurred in the education system, but the specialization of our educational institution has been preserved. In recent years, much attention has been paid to the in-depth study of foreign languages, which is why we are using new methods in teaching French. Today, 1,452 students are studying at the school. French is studied from the 1st grade. The weekly program includes three lessons in this language. 12 classes are considered specialized, for which 5 hours are provided in the weekly program. The language is taught by 13 teachers, eight of whom have C1, B2, and national certificates. This academic year, together with our teachers, three specialists from France are teaching schoolchildren”.

The French Embassy in Uzbekistan greatly supports the school in learning French. Thus, the Embassy provided literature in French and teaching aids, and grants were announced for various educational programs.

This year, the grant winners of “Teaching STEM subjects in French” were teachers N. Chasovskikh and A. Kurtova. They improved their qualifications in France. Based on another grant, a delegation consisting of directors of specialized schools visited the city of Nice on October 15-21.

“During the trip, our teachers got acquainted with the French education system”, Ms. Chutboyeva said. “In this country, education begins at the age of three, that is, from the time the child begins to attend kindergarten. Preschool education is considered compulsory. School graduates study at the lyceum in specialties. Students are accepted to study at universities without exams, considering the grades received at the lyceum. Currently, children from Kazakhstan are studying in French schools. We offered to educate our schoolchildren in this country. If the plans are implemented, our students will also be able to study in France”.

In 2018, the school was named after the famous French Temur scholar, Professor Lucien Keren. In 1978, Lucien Keren’s work “The Empire of Amir Temur” was published. In 1996, the work “Amir Temur and France”, written in collaboration with the Uzbek scientist Akmal Saidov, was published.

The school is equipped based on modern requirements. Each class has the necessary educational and visual materials and technical equipment. All this contributes to the rapid and deep mastery of the French language without difficulties.

“In 2020, with the support of the government and the French Embassy, I improved my qualifications in this country”, said French teacher Makhbuba Zayniyeva. “I have international and national certificates in French. We teach children using local textbooks and teaching aids provided by the French side. The children master the language well. Seven 11th graders already have a language certificate”.

Schoolchildren successfully take part in French Language Olympiads and other competitions. 11th-grade student Shakhboz Gaybullayev and 9th-grade student Natalya Yashkina have advanced to the regional stage of this year’s Olympiad.
